About Dress for SuccessDress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Since 1997, Dress for Success has expanded to more than 100 cities in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, the UK and the West Indies. To date, Dress for Success has helped more than 500,000 women work towards self-sufficiency. When women are referred to Dress for Success by local job training agencies, they first receive professional attire through the Suiting Program so that they can look and feel professional and confident for job interviews. During the suiting appointment, women also work with volunteers in the Career Center to polish their résumés and participate in mock interviews. After women land a job, they can join the Professional Women’s Group, which meets monthly and offers a one-year curriculum covering topics such as workplace communications, financial literacy and more. More than 75% of Professional Women’s Group members are still employed after one year, compared to less than 40% of women who do not participate in an employment retention program. Dress for Success recognizes that in order to gain employment and become self-sufficient, it is critical that women are also healthy and well. In 2010, Dress for Success is launching a Health & Wellness initiative with the Professional Women’s Group to empower women to make healthy choices in work and in life.
